Excuse my while I twist myself up, pretzel-like, looking for more silver lining to the recent election unpleasantness.
Okay, how’s this. Yesterday, the United States re-elected a president who:
- Kept and appears ready to continue keeping Guantanamo Bay’s terrorist holding facility open;
- Does not appear to care one whit about what other nations think of us;
- Is so willing to use lethal force against foreign terrorists that he maintains his own personal Kill ListTM.
Not to mention, President Obama’s golf schedule and history of bipartisan consensus-building (read: lack thereof) could indicate the onset of four very slow, unproductive years in Washington. Which are, of course, the very best kind.
What the bureaucracy will be doing meantime is a whole ‘nother question. Hey, I didn’t say it was all good news. Stay alive, all you SCOTUS Justices!
On the other hand, Republicans are spared the necessity of spending 4 years defending what Mitt Romney – a severely moderate Republican who’s flipped on several key issues – does. Plus, I’m still younger than the President and Vice President. Which is nice.
I’m sure there’s more. Gimme time.
