Yeah, why are Republicans losing the tax-cut debate?
…the tax rate reductions of the last 30 years have made the income tax much more steeply progressive.
I suppose the other side will have their statistics on the percentage of income paid in taxes at various income levels. I’m also not sure whether this would counter the very human “as long as they’re not taxing me” attitude that I think drives public attitudes on the subject.
Still, there’s no arguing with raw numbers. The upper brackets are paying more. The lower brackets are paying less. Liberals, conservatives, Republicans and Democrats all agree it isn’t fair.
