Sarah Palin #24, Hillary Clinton #34 On “World’s Most Beautiful Politicians” Survey

March 27, 2009

All this really proves is that Peruvians like to vote online.

Miami, FL (CNS) – Alaskan governor Sarah Palin and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are among the “World’s Most Beautiful Politicians,” according to a survey from Spain’s popular 20 Minutos newspaper. Palin comes in at #24 and Clinton at #34 on the list which features female politicians from 30 countries, including Japan, Russia, and Italy.

Peruvian congresswoman Luciana Leon tops the list. Leon, 30, is the youngest member of parliament in Peru. She topped the list with over 24,000 votes. In second place is another Peruvian politician, Merecedes Araoz, 47, who earned over 15,000 votes. Mexico’s Sara Latife Ruiz Chavez, comes in at #3.

Hillary Clinton, at age 61, is the oldest woman who made the list. Germany’s Julia Bonk, 22, is the youngest woman to appear on the list. She was elected to parliament in the state of Saxony at only age 18.

The Daily Mail has the full list, following a story mostly about how no British politicians made the list.

Well, you can’t have everything. Let’s start at the top.

Peru’s Luciana Leon, 30 years old, topped the list:

That picture was clearly taken in a highly controlled environment. These weren’t:

She holds up pretty well outside the studio, but…the most beautiful?

Next up: Peru’s secretary of…something. Forty-seven year old Mercedes Araoz:

That’s her on the left, and if she’s the second-most-beautiful politician in the world, then the guy in the middle is the world’s most eligible bachelor. She’s not even as good looking as the other woman in the picture, Canada’s Secretary of State for Trade, Helena Guergis, and Guergis didn’t even make the list.

We should probably be watching those Peruvians a little closer. They swamped this poll pretty good.

At #3, Mexico’s Sara Latife Ruiz Chavez, 32.

Better looking than either of the first two.

At #4, Italy’s Maria Rosaria Carfagna, 32, a former showgirl.

Do a Google search on her name, and you’ll find much racier stuff.

And at #5, Japan’s Yuri Fujikawa, 28. She’s some sort of internet model whose father was a city politician.

The rest of the list is here, but doesn’t include any links. You have to find the pictures yourselves.

Anyway. There are four Americans on the list. Let’s go the other way this time. New U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibran (D-NY) comes in at #40.

Hillary Clinton came in at #34 – I know I’m going to get myself into trouble for saying this, but I’ve always found her attractive.

Congressman Stephanie Herseth (D-SD), 38, ranked two spots ahead of Hillary.

And, of course, Sarah Palin was the highest-ranked American on the list at #24. That’s a travesty, of course, especially considering the woman at #2. It’s also a travesty, because while you can’t find a “natural” picture of some of these women – they’re all taken in very controlled situations, sometimes followed by airbrushing – Palin was having her picture taken constantly last year, and she always looked good.

I think Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) could have made the list.

One more thing: other than Pundette, this is the only place I’ve seen this story blogged. I can’t believe it hasn’t been picked up more widely. Rule 5 is not a suggestion.

    You’re right about Sarah – she’s uber-photogenic.
I think Hillary was pretty back in the day when she wore the velvet headband.
Something’s wrong in the world, though, if that man is the world’s most eligible bachelor.

What you said about Michele Bachmann.

Sarah is beautiful in front of the camera. She just always photographs great. The camera loves Palin and treats her well. I have seen photos of Hillary and other female politicians where the camera catches them in unflattering poses.

That’s an old and bad picture of Mercedez Araoz (peruvian-2nd place)Peru is a small and poor country, there is way more people in US that can access to a computer 24/7, so no way Luciana León won because “peruvians like to vote online”.

Good point about the online voting, Wendy, but you’ve got to admit it’s a huge coincidence to have the two of them at #1 and #2.

I hate Sarah Palin’s political beliefs..but since this is based on natural beauty, she should have been higher. Also, Hilary was beautiful in her younger should see some Clinton wedding pictures from back in the day
